I’ve been on a mission to lose weight since the beginning of the year.  Running wasn’t so palatable to me, specially with a history of asthma.  Brisk walking sounds great.  But while brisk walking is better outside rather than inside the house, I’d rather do it with a friend than alone.  In the end, I stuck with an activity I’ve loved as a kid:  Swimming.

Being in the water feels almost meditative for me.  Surrounded by liquid, I could hardly hear anything else except the splash of water and the sound of bubbles as I exhale underwater.  Then one funny thing started happening.  As I swim, I start thinking of stuff. A lot of stuff!  Stuff that would just be lovely to post on this blog!  Stuff that are unfortunately forgotten by the time I get home from the pool.  I couldn’t use my Android phone with wet hands.  In fact, I leave my phones at home whenever I go to the pool.  They aren’t waterproof.  So I’m left with the option of using paper.  Since I didn’t want to bring fountain pens to the pool either (I rarely use ballpens nowadays), I decided to go out and buy myself a good old fashioned leadholder.

I went to my local bookstore and bought myself a Rotring 300 leadholder. What I love about this is that it sports a lead hardness gauge.  The leadholder came with one HB lead.  I couldn’t have it changed for a B or 2B.  I should have bought a 2B lead as a replacement though and just kept the HB lead as a backup.  Will do that the next time I swim.

So the plan now is to bring a notebook and the leadholder whenever I go to the pool. Since I normally rest by the bleachers for a time after my swim, I’ll just whip out my tools and start writing down my thoughts before they once again disappear into the ether.  Then I’ll type them into my blog when I get home.

Sounds like a plan.
