I was thinking of simply doing a minor version upgrade. But I was very much intrigued on what Drupal 6 could do. In a couple of minutes I backed up my database and copied it to a new one. I did the same to the old site. Another few minutes, a few deletions and I was soon facing my new site.
From back up to installation it took me about under 90 minutes to do. But finding new versions of and replacing my old Drupal 5 modules took a good five hours. I was searching sifting through the module list one by one. Finally, I decided it was time to go to bed. Hey! It was 4.30 in the morning after all!
Waking up made me realize that I could have saved myself the trouble if I had just created the scripts to download the files, delete the old directories and install the new modules. Thirty minutes later, I was done. The rest of the 3 hours included fiddling with new settings that became available in the new versions and getting the right look of my site.
Now that it's finished, I have to admit it wasn't really as hard as I thought it would be. Next time though, I really should create my automated scripts to save me the time. :)
P.S. There is ONE thing from the old site design that was ported over to the one you see right now. See if you can find it! :D
