Open Palm, closed stores

"While out on the beach there are two empty chairs
That say more than the people who ever sit there
From under my lone palm I can look out on the day"
- "Lone Palm" by Jimmy Buffett

A few days ago I realized that if I want to stay true to my resolutions at all, I need to be reminded about it. And what better way to do it than with my Palm Zire72. The Palm Zire72 has been with me for almost five years now. It was my replacement for an aging Palm IIIe. I never thought I'd be bringing out my Zire72 again. I haven't used this in over a year or two. Yet here it is. Back in action. Ironically, two days later I find out that Palm is now closing down almost all of its retail stores.

Apparently it's a move that hopes the former leading PDA manufacturer focus on their future projects.  The only Palm store not closing down is their corporate headquarters branch.  I wonder if the Palm shops here in the Philippines will also be affected.  It's really too bad.  I've been a Palm PDA user since I first bought my Palm IIIe at Singapore's Changi Airport in December 2000.  I often wonder how long before Palm finally loses its grip and closes down.  What happens to the thousands of Palm PDA users?

In the meantime, my Palm Zire 72 is alive once more.  Might as well make the best of it.  Ah!  There goes the alarm.  If you'll excuse me, it's time for me to exercise.

(more news on the Palm stores close down here.)
